19. Two Extraordinary Men
There was a Wednesday afternoon SXSW session - that - if you only only read the title 'Stuck at the Crossroads of Life' you might have not read further. All of us might have felt we're stuck at the crossroads of life at various points, in various ways, but thats not what this talk was about. It was far from ordinary, definitely extraordinary.
If you read on, to the overview, you would have been intrigued. There can't be many of us who would have read the description of Tim Ballard, an ex CIA operative who quit working for the government to start his own organisation rescuing children from slavery and not thought that would be an interesting guy to see in person.
You might have been more focused on the music and the gaming strands that were well underway by Wednesday afternoon, but few of them can have had the blockbuster narrative of this. If you did see it, you'll know I'm jumping through the chronology of SXSW to the Wednesday afternoon to talk about this, but there's a reason for that.
Tim Ballard is an extraordinary man. As a US government professional he made a promise to save some children that, in his government role, he couldn't afford to keep. So what did he do?
He quit his job and kept the promise. Spectacular. You'll get more of the details in a later post. Now you'll learn that Tony Robbins has a huge role in what Ballard does. He tells a number of Tony Robbins stories, which include an incredibly intense coaching session, where Tony Robbins reveals that the secret to a worthwhile happy life is giving. 'The secret to living is giving.'
If, like me, you were in this talk, you might have been really intrigued by the Tony Robbins stories, gone home, bought his book, and will be wondering if a bit of the magic will rub off. Let's see...
