31. Accelerating the impact of a good idea
If, like me, you were interested in the Social Impact of SXSW, we might have been gone to the same session at the Hilton on Saturday afternoon. It was called 'Accelerate for Good - How Startups can Power Impact,' and if you'd gone, you might have been prompted to find out more about Fast froward, a startup accelerator that focuses on ideas with social impact.
Fast Forward is directed by Kevin Barenblat, the lead speaker of the session. Barenblat is a seasoned tech investor, but this is an interesting and different concept. An accelerator that provides the standard sets of tools for startups - advice, networking, support with development of business plans and MVPs, and access to investment, but with a crucial twist. Fast Forward ONLY works with non-profit organisations.
If you have a tech for good idea Fast Forward might be some of the first people you talk to. If you're in California you could even apply to their summer programme. If not, their website is still one of the best places for finding out more about tech for good. It includes summaries of super-cool ventures that do everything from helping kids with their homework, to providing clean water in Africa, and a hundred other world-improving projects. Find out more here: https://www.ffwd.org/
