If you like incendiary political speakers, then Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have been one of your SXSW highlights. There were certainly a lot of take aways from her session - and you can find out more about them here and here.
She was interviewed by Briahna Joy Gray for the Intercept, and part of the conversation focused on the importance of the environment and climate change as issues for today and the future. The topic really caught fire, though, when the floor was opened up to questions, and who should appear at the microphone, but Bill Nye the Science Guy.
For those who don't know, Bill Nye is a legendary US science communicator, who has made a broadcast career explaining science to the masses. In recent years he has become a powerful campaigner for action on climate change.
Ocasio Cortez seemed as excited to see him as anyone in the audience, and his question prompted her to deliver another impassioned speech about the importance of action, and the problems of caution. She ended on a stirring call to action:
'We are capable of so much more than we're currently achieving, our mission should be to save our fricking planet.'
