34. Quality podcasts all in one place

One of the standout themes of SXSW was the coming explosion of podcasts. You can read about the big room talk on the topic with leaders from Spotify, Gimlet, and Anchor here.
At that session you would have heard Matt Lieber of Gimlet lay out their vision for the future of high-quality podcasts, and how Spotify will take that vision forward. You might have left with an interest to find out a bit more about Gimlet, and you would have been well rewarded.

Gimlet takes the podcasting expertise and traditions of NPR and This American Life to the next level, with a remarkable suite of podcasts on offer. Informative, engaging, and entertaining, perfect for your laundry, commute, or treadmill distraction needs.

It includes Crimetown - a fascinating dive into the criminal underworld of different American cities, Motherhood - authentic therapy recordings of the trials of being a Mum and Withoutfail - interviews with innovators who have struggled.

If you were at the session at SXSW, though, you might feel that the most interesting is Startup. This is the account of the creation of Gimlet. It begins with the very first pitches, the anxiety over the risk, and the trials of setting up a new business. The irony for SXSW attendees, of course is that you hear all the uncertainty of the beginnings with the knowledge that it came good - you will have seen the leader of Gimlet at SXSW talking about how it all paid off with a $200,000,000 plus sale to Spotify.
