36. Start creating content now. Anyone can be a director

So there are a ton of movie premieres at SXSW, stars come from all over, but few of them engage with the conference. One that did - in a massive way - was Booksmart, directed by Olivia Wilde. Wilde gave a keynote speech, and then her team went all out. If you were there on the Monday afternoon you may have seized the chance to see them, and you would have been well rewarded.

The session was facilitated by Jenelle Riley from Variety, and included Wilde herself, the screenwriter Katie Silberman, the producer Jessica Elbaum, and the stars, Beanie Feldstein, Kaitlyn Dever, and Billie Lourde.

Their message was overwhelmingly positive, about the rise of women led movie making, and about their empowering experience of making the movie together. The sense of mutual support, learning, and cherishing each other was massive

They also gave an enthusiastic boost to people ambitious to create cinema - particularly young women. They emphasised the important of action - now!

'Anyone can be a director,' said Wilde. 'My first music video was shot on iphones. Start creating your own content and get it out there.'

'Say yes,' added Billie Lourde. 'Try everything.'

Seems like that includes trying the movie, when its out in May....
