37. Home for lost ideas

One of the SXSW sessions that dealt with the business/social impact intersection was the Saturday afternoon session on how start-up accelerators can do good. If you didn't go, you can find out more about it here and here.

One of the speakers at the session was Osnat Fainaru Benari, VP for Global Programming at Wework labs. Wework is a fascinating organisation, less than 10 years old, and worth billions, it saw the opportunity to corporatise the co-working space movement, and then took it nuclear. Wework owns shared working spaces around the world. They are communities, with health insurance, dining, kitchens, and social events (note that all Wework spaces are vegetarian...).

Wework labs are the startup facilitation wing of the organisation, providing education and mentoring support for all kinds of new businesses all around the world. If you have an idea that needs a home, they might be the answer. Find out more here.

In 2017 Wework consolidated their position by acquiring Meetups, the website and app that allows people to form groups of like minded types. Now they host Meetup events, and use communities of entrepreneurs to kickstart their businesses. Smart.
