62. The inside story of a startup
That Podcasts were massive at SXSW2019 will be clear if you've been following these posts. If not, you can learn the headlines here and some insight into Gimlet Media here.
Your experience at SXSW might have prompted you to start your own podcast (as it did me). If you're still thinking about it, then one of the best insights into what the process is like is the 'Start-up' podcast that served as the first product of the new Gimlet Media company.
Start-up is utterly fascinating. It is the real-time story of the beginning of a massively successful organisation from its beginnings as little more than an idea. It includes recordings of every step of Alex Blumberg, as he leaves NPR and takes the scary leap into running his own company.
If you listen you will hear his very first, awkward pitches, and the difficult and embarrassing, conversations with a possible - and utterly crucial - partner. It includes the quest for investors, and the difficulties of dealing with a new team, and understanding and handling the pressures they are put under.
It's an invaluable insight, honest, open, and thorough. Recommended: Find it here.
